Coomodity-wise freight revenue by Railways goes up by 6.84 per cent during April-August 2009

The Railways have generated Rs.22970.37 crore of revenue earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic during April-August 2009 as compared to Rs. 21499.21 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 6.84 per cent. Railways carried 357.99 million tonnes of commodity-wise freight traffic during April-August 2009 as compared to 336.00 million tonnes carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 6.54 per cent. The Net Tonne Kilo Metres (NTKM) went up from 217292 million during April-August 2008 to 235946 million during April-August 2009, showing an increase of 8.58 per cent.

Regulated retail sale of Oselatamivir Phosphate and Zanamivir allowed

Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has on 15th September, 2009 issued a Notification under Section 26 E of the Drugs and Cosmetic Act, 1940 restricting the sale of the drugs ‘Zanamivir’ and ‘Oselatamivir Phosphate’. Prior to the issue of this Notification, the retail sale of Oselatamivir phosphate had been banned by the Central Government and its distribution was permissible only through Public Health Institutions. On the other hand, there was no restriction on the retail sale of Zanamivir.

Expert Committee to review the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988

International Ozone Day celebrated UNIVERSAL PARTICIPATION – OZONE PROTECTION UNIFIES THE WORLD

Project 15-A destroyer, INS Kochi To be launched on 18 Sep 2009

The second of the three Project 15-A stealth destroyers will be launched on 18 Sep 09 by Mrs Madhulika Verma, wife of Admiral Nirmal Verma, Chief of the Naval Staff. The 6500 ton ship, to be named INS Kochi, is being built by Mazagon Docks Ltd in Mumbai. Designed indigenously by the Directorate of Naval Design, these are a follow-on of the existing Delhi Class destroyers – INS Delhi, INS Mysore and INS Mumbai.

Several measures to increase power generation

The Centre is working out a number of measures to increase power generation and increase the pace of power project implementation aimed at ensuring energy security in the country. Speaking at the 62nd Annual General Meet (AGM) of The Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers Association (IEEMA) in Mumbai on Wednesday, the Union Minister of State for Power Mr. Bharatsinh Solanki said that the government was working on bringing a few more Ultra Mega Power Projects to the bidding table. “So far, 14 such UMPPs have been identified at various locations in India. Four of these projects have already been transferred to successful bidder/developer based on the tariff-based bidding process laid down by the government. We expect a few units of these UMPPs to be operational during the XI Plan period itself,” the Minister said.
